§ 41-2. Historic District Commission established; membership.

    An Historic District Commission is hereby established, which shall consist of five members and three alternate members, none of whom shall hold a salaried public municipal office in said Town, to be appointed within 15 days of the effective date of this chapter by the Board of Selectmen in such a manner that one member shall be appointed for a term expiring on July 1, 1971, one for a term expiring on July 1, 1972, one for a term expiring on July 1, 1973, one for a term expiring July 1, 1974, and one for a term expiring on July 1, 1975; one alternate for a term expiring on July 1, 1971, one alternate member for a term expiring on July 1, 1972, and one alternate member for a term expiring on July 1, 1973.
    B. 
    All subsequent appointments shall be made by the Board of Selectmen and shall be for a term of five years, except that an appointment to fill an unexpired term shall be for the duration of said unexpired term only.
    C. 
    Within 30 days after appointment of the members of the first Commission, said members shall meet, organize and elect a Chairman, Vice Chairman, and a Clerk from its own members, and within a period not exceeding 30 days after the first of July of each succeeding year the members of the Commission shall elect a Chairman, Vice Chairman and Clerk from its members. Alternate members shall not participate in any election of officers of the Commission. In all other matters, when a member of the Commission is unable to act at a particular time because of absence, sickness, disqualification by reason of personal interest, or other good reason, he shall notify the Chairman of the Commission, and the Chairman shall designate an alternate member to serve in place of such member. All members and alternates shall serve without compensation.
